Michael Marling de Cuellar has an unquenchable appetite and inquisitiveness about art, life and the world in which he produces imagery. His teaching philosophy encourages students to seek new approaches to artistic problem solving through experimentation, exploration and developing visual acuity through observation and perceptual skills as a foundation for self-expression and invention. Marling de Cuellar's imagery uses art historical references to investigate culture, the environment, and place. His recent work examines symbolism, religious nature, myth and the impact between the physical and spiritual within society. Marling de Cuellar utilizes travel as a catalyst in his image making process to document the amazing art journey, which he has had the opportunity to participate, this adventure is a continuous productive exploration of how to sustain life as an artist in the 21st century and this passion he shares with his students.

Marling de Cuellar's works have been exhibited regionally, nationally, and internationally and are featured in both private and corporate collections here and abroad. As a curator he developed the Southern Printmaking Biennale International which is a survey of contemporary printmaking throughout the world.
